Unknowingly, Rafael began his healing arts in Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) when he was 10 years old and was befriended by local shamans (witchdoctors). It was they who taught him the value of being still and listening to the world around him. He commenced his massage experience by working out bruises on the members of his high school gymnastics team, 10 years later he received his massage license in San Diego,California. In 1995 he discovered Aquatic Bodywork at Harbin Hot Springs and has been deeply involved since. He began Watsu with Harold Dull in1996 as a student and then as an assistant teacher. He also studied with Mario Jahara and obtained advanced credentials, studied Healing Dance with Alexander and Wassertanzen with Richard Bock and Shantam. In 2000 he went to East Germany (Bad Sulza) to work with Jonathan Paul DeVierville in the Liquid Sound Temple (a creation of Mickey Remann)  as a result of these experiences he created Waterjourneys. At this time Sara Firman came into his life and together they experimented and found deep levels of of concious connection to spirit. Sara and Rafael created a space in the Ozark forest where they found the natural vibration of nature to be very condusive to the work. In 2007 Sara returned to the UK and Rafael continued working on his own.
